Since then, United fans have had his back, except for when Jose Mourinho publicly lambasted the youngster after a half-arsed display against Brighton at the end of last season.

It was the signing of former Arsenal captain, Alexis Sanchez, in January that saw Mourinho’s genuine distrust of Martial, as the Chilean would reach the top of the manager’s pecking order for the wide-left role in United’s attack.

Still, Martial’s love for United appears to have remained as strong as ever. Just check out his latest Twitter row for proof of that.

“Anthony Martial at work, I pass by him in a Liverpool jersey, he gives me a sign that my jersey is dirty, I kiss the Liverbird before him.”

Martial responds: “You should change your jersey.”
