Revealed: The five players Man Utd want to sign this summer

Manchester United are linked with an array of signings every summer, so it’s nothing new to see headlines suggest the manager is planning a squad overhaul.

The manager may well not be happy with his players, especially in the final weeks of the season, but there’s little to suggest Jose Mourinho wants a clear out. That would bring us back to the beginning again, and I don’t think he has the time for that.

Next season needs to be much better. The gap between Manchester City and United needs to be significantly cut, no excuses.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. The Reds finished second in the Premier League, our highest finish since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

In regard to exits, there are a few that will be looking for moves. Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, and Luke Shaw appear certain to leave. Anthony Martial’s future still casts serious doubt because his relationship with Mourinho could be much better.

According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, “Mourinho is expected to get four to five main signings in.” He reportedly wants to sign Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Tierney or Alex Sandro, Fred and/or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Willian.

All of these names have previously featured on the blog with credits to the foreign press, but Delaney is a reliable and when a story and his by-line our ears prick a little.

Alderweireld hasn’t agreed on a new contract with Tottenham, who, according to The Guardian, may still seek a world-record fee for the 29-year-old defender. That would be over £75 million considering that is the amount Liverpool spent on Virgil van Dijk.

Celtic left-back is another player linked with United. He would be a vast improvement on Ashley Young at left-back, which is exactly what we need if Juventus defender Alex Sandro goes off the radar. Shakhtar’s Fred and Lazio’s Milinkovic-Savic have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford following the retirement of Michael Carrick.

Then, there is Willian, who remains a Chelsea player. For that reason alone it could be a difficult deal to strike but Mourinho fancies the player and if we throwback to last summer, it was the Stamford Bridge club that made a big mistake by allowing Nemanja Matic join United.

Hopefully, Chelsea make the same mistake.
