Man Utd set to announce first signing of the summer with defensive reinforcement

The summer transfer window opens on Thursday and reports are intensifying that a primary Manchester United target is edging closer to leaving his current club.

With Jose Mourinho deploying a makeshift option at left-back this season in Ashley Young, it is an area the manager seriously needs to strengthen before the start of the next campaign. Young as done well but, let’s face it, he’s not a defender by any means.

Sadly, Luke Shaw has failed to convince Mourinho he’s good enough to make the left-back role his own, and now the England international’s future is in real doubt, as per Give Me Sport.

That leads up to who we believe is United’s primary target this summer. Juventus and Brazil full-back Alex Sandro, who despite being considered world-class, has been left out of Tite’s World Cup squad for Russia 2018.

According to Calciomercato, Sandro is being tipped to leave the Turin giants as not only has he yet to sign a contract renewal, but it is claimed that the Serie A champions are considering their own signings to replace him.

The Times recently claimed a £50 million deal was suggested with Sandro joining after the conclusion of the domestic seasons in both England and Italy.

As seen below, the Brazil squad named for this summer’s World Cup.
