Man Utd on the brink of completing first transfer of the summer in mega-money deal

According to The Sun, Manchester United have agreed a stunning £80 million summer deal for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Yesterday, we ran a piece with Online Sports Editor of Heard Scotland, Alasdair Mackenzie, who has followed Lazio all his life, to gather some insight about the Serbian midfielder.

The report above claims Jose Mourinho is set to make the Lazio midfielder his fight mega-signing after a breakthrough in talks as recent as last week.

United were allegedly reluctant to meet the asking price for SMS but have accepted they must pay a significant amount to land him now, which was revealed in our piece yesterday when it was suggested that Lazio president, Claudio Lotito, is a notoriously difficult negotiator.

There are fears, however, that Milinkovic-Savic is too similar of a player to United’s record signing Paul Pogba. United fans will hope this transfer doesn’t see the Frenchman leave the club but being similar players and both costing a fortune, Mourinho may have a decision to make.

But with Michael Carrick on the brink of retirement and Marouane Fellaini’s contractual saga dragging on, signing one or two central midfielders should be a priority for the club.

Nemanja Matic would also enjoy having a fellow Serbia international in the dressing room.
