Paul Pogba lauds Manchester United ace for improve his game

French midfielder Paul Pogba has had a tough first and second season back at Old Trafford, with manager Jose Mourinho occasionally leaving him on the bench, despite the £89 million it cost to bring him back from Juventus.

Pogba, 25, has even turned to Michael Carrick, who will retire at the end of the current campaign, to help him develop into a better all-round midfielder.

“He’s [Carrick] got the experience,” Pogba told Sky Sports.

“He always talks to me since I arrived last year. Talks to me, helps me on my position.

“It just came naturally in training when you see something that could be better.

“He told me about running without the ball can make the difference to win the game. I call them the Lampard runs.

“Outside giving the ball and then making the run, getting in the box. That helps a lot.”

This is a prime example of why I’m happy Mourinho was able to convince Carrick to stay around and become part of the United coaching staff after retiring. Everyone has different methods and this sort of experience can be near impossible to replace.

Pogba hasn’t had it easy because of the amount of money it cost to bring him back. A misplaced pass or a row z effort brings the critics forward and they really go hard on the lad. Garth Crooks and Graeme Souness are by far the worst but Pogba still doesn’t seem the type to let that eat away at him, hence why I think next season he will push on again and force them back on their word.
