Manchester United remain interested in 27-year-old England international

Manchester United have been long-linked with Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose, and the Guardian have decided to recycle an old rumour on Tuesday.

This clearly reaffirms the interest to United fans that Jose Mourinho still wants to sign Rose this summer.

United will invest in their backline with Mourinho dissatisfied with how things are shaping up after his first two-years in charge.

Matteo Darmian is likely to return to Italy and nobody would be surprised to see Luke Shaw leave on the back of a heated rift with Jose Mourinho, who has never fancied the England international.

Meanwhile, Ashley Young has agreed on a one-year extension to remain at Old Trafford.

Readers of the Guardian have been told Mourinho is targeting both a right-back and left-back in the summer transfer market. The manager is hopeful of signing Rose and is intent on upgrading each position to increase United’s prospects of mounting a challenge to Manchester City next season.

Rose is under contract at White Heart Lane until 2021 and is likely to cost in the same region as Kyle Walker last summer, £50 million, after he joined City for a world-record free for a defender.

That would be a lot of money for Rose but it’s not as if cash is an issue to United.
