Rejoice: Paul Pogba back in the Jose Mourinho’s good books

Jose Mourinho rubbished criticism from Manchester United legend Paul Scholes on Paul Pogba, insisting the France international produced another “top performance” away to Bournemouth.

Pogba set up teammate Romelu Lukaku as United prevailed 2-0 in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash, with Chris Smalling also getting his name on the scoresheet.

The fans, too, were happy enough to tweet about Pogba’s improved performance against the Cherries.

Scholes insisted Pogba’s poor showing in Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to West Brom was “disrespectful” to manager Mourinho.

But Mourinho wasn’t having any of it when made aware of Scholes’ pre-match comments on BT Sport. He replied: “I don’t agree. I agree that it wasn’t a good performance at all (against West Brom); with that I agree.”

Mourinho made seven changes to his side on Wednesday night but Pogba remained before producing a much-improving display.

When asked to rate Pogba’s performance at Bournemouth, Mourinho purred: “Top performance. Top performance. Obviously the performance against City was special, coming with two goals.

“But this performance was a very similar level. So top performance. He can do it.”
