Eric Bailly makes injury vow

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is ready to help his side finish the season strongly after spending a large proportion of the season in the treatment room.

Bailly has vowed to ‘take all the playing opportunities that present themselves now’.

The Ivory Coast international suffered an ankle injury on international duty back in November and was ruled out for three months. He then made his long-awaited return in United’s FA Cup win at Huddersfield in February and has since made 5 appearances for the first-team.

Jose Mourinho has been wary about rushing his best centre half back, and he was even left out of Sunday’s shock defeat to West Brom.

“I’m fine. I had a few difficult moments with my past injury but I am fully recovered now,” he told MUTV. “I came back fitter and I hope I can take all the playing opportunities that present themselves now.”

By finishing strongly, Bailly will want to be part of FA Cup success given that’s the only piece of silverware United can win this season. They’re out of the Champions League and rivals Manchester City claimed the Premier League title with 5 games to go.

Bailly also welcomes competition for places from teammates such as Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Daily Blind with the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur just days away.

“It is a good position to be in, to have the defence fully fit and ready,” he continued. “It bodes well for the remaining matches ahead of us.

“I hope we can remain with a solid defence, as do the others, and we can keep some clean sheets in those games so that we see the season out well.”
