Everton join Manchester United in race for promising striker

Earlier this week we brought you the news of want-away England U20 star George Hirst was being targeted by Manchester United as his Sheffield Wednesday career fades to black.

Reports emerged on Thursday that Everton have joined the race for his signature with Leicester already sniffing around.

Hirst has found himself frozen out at Hillsborough after refusing to renew his contract and he can leave Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer this summer.

The 19-year-old has scored four times for England U20s this season and is seen as one of the country’s most promising strikers.

Right now, Hirst needs to evaluate his options and first-team football should be a factor. He is not going to achieve that straight away at United, so perhaps a plan could be put in place to send him out on loan should he move to Old Trafford this summer.

There’s nothing to suggest he would be a first-team regular at Everton either. Hirst hasn’t played any first-team minutes at Sheffield Wednesday this season and it’s a huge jump from Championship to Premier League without any experience at this level.
