Ashley Young has built himself a reputation down the years for going to ground easily. It’s irritating as a spectator to see this from any player. Cristiano Ronaldo was a culprit of such foolery in his early career but he grown up a bit since then.
However, it seems like we’re still waiting on our current number 18 to grow up. Young played well when we came on from the bench, replacing Javier Hernandez, but his dive inside the box puts a grey shadow over that.
Some argued it wasn’t a dive because there was a minimum amount of contact. Real Sociedad manager, Jagoba Arrasate, was asked about the incident after the game: “I couldn’t really see it from the dug-out. But the player kind of folds.”
