Ferguson trying hard to bring more players to the club

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted Manchester United are trying to sign who is said to be Brazil’s latest wonderkid, Lucas Moura. There has been talk of rejected offers a lot in the last three weeks, but it sounds like United aren’t ready to give up on the youngster.

São Paulo president Juvenal Juvêncio and the player’s agent rubbished rumours last night that an agreement had been reached and Lucas Moura was close to signing for United. It was the Mirror that broke the story which no journalist put their name to.

Ferguson, speaking in Shanghai on United’s pre-season tour, said: “We haven’t reached an agreement for the player. We have shown interest but until such time as we can get an agreement, then we can’t say he’s our player.”

The player is currently in England for the Olympics. He is a member of London 2012 favourites, Brazil, who beat Team GB 2-0 on Friday night. Goals came from Neymar and Sandro.

“We’re not sitting on our backsides doing nothing. We’re trying hard to bring other players to the club,” Ferguson added. And from a fans’ point of view, that’s all we ask for. United have been active in this summer’s transfer market and have recently shown interest in Robin van Persie.

United aren’t the only top European club to show an interest in Moura. Inter Milan and Chelsea are said to have been scared away by his price tag. However the 19-year-old would be subject to a work permit but with the amount of money in question, the authorities are convinced he is in the special talent category.
