Ferguson: Berbatov is still in my thoughts

Due to Dimitar Berbatov’s misfortunate start to the season, rarely getting the nod to start games, newspapers began speculation linking him with a January move to Russia with his agent Emil Danchev feeding a lot of the stories to hungry sources. Danchev can we quoted in the Daily Mirror “We would be interested when Anzhi make a concrete offer.”

And to be honest, the overall reaction on Twitter was fair enough. United fans in general love Berbatov. He’s a classy bloke with remarkable talents, including the greatest touch I have ever seen on a pitch. However, the ‘fair enough’ feeling came from fans that know he’s too good of a player to be sitting on the bench week-in week-out when he could be elsewhere scoring goals for fun and enjoying his football like last season.

The news that Ferguson has claimed Berbatov will be going nowhere has in fact pleased me. I just hope we get to see more of him this season…

“Dimitar is still in my thoughts,” said Ferguson. “I have read some things but there is absolutely no reason for me to let him go. He is an outstanding footballer and we will give the extra year. It is unfortunate the form of Javier Hernandez over the last year has been outstanding but he plays a great role and he trains well. He has no complaints. The boy is a great professional and we are happy for him to be here. You need a good number of strikers in the modern day. If you look back to 1999, we had four great strikers. They all played their part. That is exactly what will happen today.”
